To Get Away
Raymond Island is the perfect place to get away from it all.
Let the Raymond Island Ferry transport you (and your car) across from Paynesville to this little bit of paradise in the Gippsland Lakes.
The island is 7.6 sq kms and is 6kms long and 2km wide at it’s widest point.
Approximately 450 people are permanent residents on Raymond Island.
There are (as at the last count in May 2013) just over 300 koalas.
Kangaroos, echidnas and at least one deer are regularly spotted.
All kinds of birds – from crimson rosellas, galahs, white cockatoos, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, kookaburras as well as a wide variety of water birds are abundant on/around the island.
There are areas of bush where (if you know the right person who can take you) there are some amazing plants .. including orchids .. to be seen.
Solitary walks on beaches around the back of the island are perfect any time, but amazing at sunrise or sunset.
Swim or kayak from sandy, shallow, Paddlers Cove.
Have lunch at one of the picnic tables on the boardwalk and enjoy the serenity of the water.
Raymond Island really is a little piece of paradise.
Whether you are into walking, cycling, fishing, boating, kayaking, photography, scenery, seeing koalas, kangaroos or other wildlife – don’t miss out – come and visit us on Raymond Island. You will love it just like we do!
